FAQ

How does the math speed test work?

Sums appear one at a time. Type the answer and it is accepted the moment it is right. Press Enter to skip a sum you cannot solve. Your score is the number of correct answers before the timer ends.

What do the levels mean?

Easy uses addition and subtraction up to 20. Medium uses addition and subtraction up to 100 plus times tables up to 10 x 10. Hard uses two-digit additions and subtractions up to 200 and multiplications such as 12 x 14.

How can I get faster at mental math?

Learn the times tables until they are automatic, make tens when adding (47 + 38 is 47 + 40 - 2), and split big numbers (12 x 14 is 12 x 10 + 12 x 4). Short daily practice works better than one long session. Need the tables? See the multiplication table.
