How the yes or no picker works

Each press draws a secure random number in your browser: below your Yes chance it says Yes, otherwise No. With the default 50% both answers are equally likely and no answer depends on the previous ones, so a run of three Yes in a row is normal. Nothing is sent to a server.

Making better decisions with a random answer

Use it for small choices. A trick that works: decide that Yes means "do it" and notice how you feel about the answer. If you feel relief you have your answer; if you feel disappointment, you wanted the other option. For more than two choices use the spinning wheel or the random name picker.

FAQ

How does the yes or no decision maker work?

Type your question if you like, then press the button. The page picks Yes or No with your browser's secure random generator. By default both answers are equally likely.

Can I change the odds?

Yes. Use the Yes chance slider to set anything from 0% to 100%. Leave it at 50% for a fair coin-style decision.

Should I really decide things with a random yes or no?

It works well for small choices and for finding out what you really want: if you feel disappointed by the answer, go the other way. For important decisions use it only as a prompt to think, not as the decision.

What does the Maybe option do?

When Maybe is switched on, one answer in five is Maybe, and the rest is split between Yes and No according to your odds. It is useful if you want a gentle nudge to ask again.

Is it different from a coin flip?

With default settings it is the same 50/50 chance, but you can ask a worded question and the answer reads Yes or No directly instead of heads or tails.
