How the date works
Bonfire Night is fixed on November 5, so only the weekday changes. It marks the failure of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, when a plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament was foiled.
It is celebrated mainly in the UK with bonfires, fireworks and sometimes an effigy of Guy Fawkes. Many public displays are held on the weekend closest to November 5, so the event you want may not be on the day itself.
The clocks in the UK go back on the last Sunday of October (October 25, 2026), so it is dark early on November 5.
Fireworks safety: use only fireworks that meet UK standards, follow the instructions, and keep pets indoors. Check your local council for public displays.
