A US gallon is 128 fluid ounces, so it fills about 32 four-ounce punch cups, 21 six-ounce cups or 16 eight-ounce cups.
With 2 cups per guest in the first hour, 1 per hour after, and 6-ounce cups, a 2-hour party for 50 guests needs 150 cups, which is 900 fluid ounces or just over 7 gallons. Round up to 7.5 or 8 gallons.
A common planning rule is 2 cups per guest in the first hour and 1 cup per guest for each extra hour. Plan less if other drinks are served alongside the punch.
