Multiply the number of other guests by how many cookies each guest should take home from you, then add any cookies for tasting on the day. With 8 people and half a dozen each, that is 7 x 6 = 42 cookies, plus tasting cookies.

How many batches do I need to bake?

Divide the cookies you need by how many cookies one batch of your recipe makes and round up.

How many cookies will each guest take home?

Each guest takes home the per-baker amount from every other baker, so with 8 people and 6 cookies each, everyone goes home with 42 cookies of 7 different kinds.
