The square root of n is the number that multiplied by itself gives n. The cube root multiplied three times, and the nth root n times. Perfect squares such as 9, 16 and 25 have whole-number roots; other numbers give endless decimals, like √2 = 1.41421356...
The simplified form pulls square factors out of the root. Example: 50 = 25 x 2, so √50 = 5√2 = 7.0711 (rounded).
Not among real numbers. In complex numbers √-9 = 3i. This calculator shows the imaginary result for square roots and for other even roots; odd roots of negatives are real (the cube root of -27 is -3).
Find the two perfect squares around it. √50 lies between √49 = 7 and √64 = 8, and is much closer to 7, so about 7.07.
About 1.41421356. It is irrational: its decimals never repeat or end.
