How many pies do you need for Thanksgiving, Christmas or a party? Enter your guests, how many slices each will eat and how many slices you cut per pie.
Each kind gets at least one pie, so with many flavors you may end up with a few spare slices (good for leftovers).
| Guests | 1 slice each | 1.5 slices each | 2 slices each |
|---|
Whole pies needed, 8 slices per pie.
Multiply your guests by the slices each person will eat, then divide by the slices in one pie. A 9-inch pie is usually cut into 8 slices, so 12 guests at 1.5 slices each need 18 slices, or 3 pies.
A standard 9-inch pie is usually cut into 8 slices; cut it into 10 for thinner slices after a big meal. A 10-inch deep-dish pie gives about 10 slices.
Two or three kinds is common for a family dinner. Many guests want a small slice of more than one, so plan about 1.5 slices per pie-eating guest when you offer several flavors.
