Type a year to see whether it is a leap year.
A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except years divisible by 100, which are not leap years unless they are also divisible by 400. That is why 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 and 2100 are not. A leap year has 366 days, with an extra February 29.
2028, 2032, 2036, 2040, 2044, 2048, 2052, 2056, 2060, 2064, 2068, 2072, 2076, 2080, 2084, 2088, 2092, 2096, 2104.
Recent leap years: 2024, 2020, 2016, 2012, 2008, 2004, 2000 (a century year divisible by 400), 1996.
How do you know if a year is a leap year? Divisible by 4, except century years, which must be divisible by 400. So 2024 and 2028 are leap years, 1900 and 2100 are not, 2000 was.
Why is 2100 not a leap year? It is divisible by 4 and by 100 but not by 400, so the Gregorian calendar skips its February 29, as it did in 1700, 1800 and 1900.
When is the next leap year? 2028, then 2032, 2036 and so on every 4 years until 2096. After 2096 the next one is 2104, because 2100 is skipped.
How many days are in a leap year? 366: the usual 365 plus February 29, so February has 29 days instead of 28.
