How it works

Each letter grade is worth grade points on the 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D- = 0.7 and F = 0. Multiply the points by the course's credit hours to get its quality points. Your GPA is total quality points divided by total credit hours.

Example: an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course give (4.0 × 3 + 3.0 × 4) ÷ 7 = 3.43.

FAQ

How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?

Add every course from every semester as a row. Cumulative GPA is simply the credit-weighted average of all of them.

Are weighted or honors GPAs different?

Some schools add a point (or half a point) for honors, AP or IB classes. This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale; check your school's policy for weighted GPA.

Does a pass/fail course count?

Usually not. Pass/fail credits normally do not enter the GPA, so leave them out.
