How to convert 3.5 to a fraction

  1. 3.5 has one decimal place, so write it over 10 (a 1 followed by 1 zero) with the decimal point removed: 3.5 = 35/10.
  2. Find the greatest common divisor of 35 and 10: it is 5.
  3. Divide both by 5: 35 ÷ 5 = 7 and 10 ÷ 5 = 2.
  4. The answer is 7/2.

Since 7 is larger than 2, you can also write it as the mixed number 3 1/2: 7 ÷ 2 = 3 remainder 1.

Check
