How to convert 2.5 to a fraction

  1. 2.5 has one decimal place, so write it over 10 (a 1 followed by 1 zero) with the decimal point removed: 2.5 = 25/10.
  2. Find the greatest common divisor of 25 and 10: it is 5.
  3. Divide both by 5: 25 ÷ 5 = 5 and 10 ÷ 5 = 2.
  4. The answer is 5/2.

Since 5 is larger than 2, you can also write it as the mixed number 2 1/2: 5 ÷ 2 = 2 remainder 1.

Check

Divide the numerator by the denominator: 5 ÷ 2 = 2.5. As a percent, 2.5 = 250%.
