How to convert 1.5 to a fraction

  1. 1.5 has one decimal place, so write it over 10 (a 1 followed by 1 zero) with the decimal point removed: 1.5 = 15/10.
  2. Find the greatest common divisor of 15 and 10: it is 5.
  3. Divide both by 5: 15 ÷ 5 = 3 and 10 ÷ 5 = 2.
  4. The answer is 3/2.

Since 3 is larger than 2, you can also write it as the mixed number 1 1/2: 3 ÷ 2 = 1 remainder 1.

Check

Divide the numerator by the denominator: 3 ÷ 2 = 1.5. As a percent, 1.5 = 150%.
